子曰：〝君子易事而难说也，说之不以道，不说也。及其使人也，器之。小人难事而易说也。说之强不以道，说也。及其使人也，求备焉。〞

孔子说：〝君子容易事奉而难以使他高兴，如果用不正当的手段讨他喜欢，他是不会高兴的。到了他用人的时候，他是量才录用。小人难以事奉而容易使他高兴，即使用不正当的手段讨他喜欢，他也会高兴。到了他用人的时候却求全责备。〞
【English Translation】
Confucius said: "It is easy to work under a gentleman. But to please him is difficult. If one uses unscrupulous mans to win his favour, he would not be pleased. A gentleman will delegate responsibilities according to the abilities of a person. It is difficult to work under a petty man but it is easy to please him. Even if underhand methods are used to please him, he will be happy. However, when he chooses people for a job, he is over demanding. "
